2.0 B.Ed. SEDE PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

Rehabilitation Councli of india is aStatutory Body of ministy of Social Justice & Empowerment, set up by an Act of Parliamentin 1992 and cgarged with the responsibility of planning, developing, and standardizing the quality of training for sixteen categories of Rehabilitataon professionals unde its purview to meet the needs of span of persons with disabilities This Act was futher amended in the year 2001 to widen the reponsibilities of the Counicil to include:

2.1 Objectives

The B.Ed. Special Education- Distance Education Programme (B.Ed- SEDE) aims to dev professionals for Special and Education within a briad perspctive of Education in the two first century and keeping in mind the evolving era of Information Technology and globalization who this broad ambit the persons with disablility are oerceiveds as differevtly able and teaching is not just as a profession but a mission. The programme intends to educate and train the aspi to become agents of change as teacher-professionals by imbibing the required knowledge, acquiring understanding, positive attitudes and netter like buried treasures in any child with disability develop in faith as well as a sense of freedom, self - respect and dignity not only to become independent dut also to be contributing citizens of society and the nation. It will also the catalyze the realizatrio;n that special education is all about child centric, good quality equcation.

2.2 Minimum Eligibility Conditions

  1. The applicant should:

  •  have a Bachelor Degree from any UGC recognized University; and

  •  fulfill any one of the following conditions:

    • be a parent of a child with disability,

    • be a person with disability,

    •  possess a RCI recvognised Diploma in Special Education (DSE),

    •  have undergone Bridge Course of RCI,

    •  have completed the RCI recognized Foundation Course (FC-SEDE) conducted by MPBOU,

    •  have a minimum of two years' experience in a special school environm;ent in any disability area, after his/her graduation.

 

2.3 Duration

The minimum duration of the programme is 2 years.Students can complete the course within a maximum of 5 years. The programme is scheduled to commence from the month of June every year.

2.4 Medium of Instruction and Examination

  • Self Instructional Materials will be available in the languages declared by the Universities listed abouve.

  •  Curricular transcation will be in the languages declared by the University.

  •  Assignments, Practical Records, Internal Assement Tests, Project Work Report will be written by the candidate in languages declared by the university.

Term End Examination will be held in the languages declared by the University.

2.5 Programme Structure

The Programme of B.Ed (Special Education) in Distance Education mode will consist of 9 Thpapers and 13 Practicals. Details of the theory (Group A,B & C) and practical components (G,D& E) of the programme are given below:

Group A - Core Pedagogy Theory Courses: There will be 4 Pedagogy papers which are compulsory.

SECP-01          Education in Emerging Indian Society.

SECP-02          Educational Psychology.

SECP-03          Educational Planning and Management, Curriculum Designing and Research .

SECP-04          Introduction to Disabilities.

Group B - General Content-based Methodology Theory papers: Students should choose papers, one from each of the following subgroups.

Sub-Group B-1: Any on Paper from the following

SECM-01         Teaching of English

SECM-02         Teaching of Hindi

SECM-03         Teaching of Regional Language(as declared by specific University)

SECM-04          Teaching of Science

SECM-05          Teaching of Matrhematics

SECM-06          Teaching of Social Studies

Group C - Specialised Theory papers in Special Education Areas: Choosing any one of following specilization streams (Sub-Group : C-1,C-2, or C-3)

Specialty Sub-Group C-1 : Visual Impairment

SESV-01        Introduction to the Education of Visually ;;Impaired Children

SESV-02         Educational Perspective on Visual Impairment

SESV-03         Instructional Methods

Specialty Sub-Group C-2: Mental Retardation

SESM-01         Identification and Assessment of Persons with Mental Retardation

SESM-02          Mental Retardation: Its Multidisciplinary Aspects

SESM-03           Curriculum and Teaching Strategties

Specialty Sub-Group C-3: Hearing Impairment

SESH-01           Foundation of Education for the Hearing Impaired

SESH-02          Aural and Oral Rehabilitation of the Hearing Impaired

SESH-03 Methodology of Teaching Language and Other Subjects to Hearing Impaired

Group D- Practical :There will be 13 practicals out of which 7 are from General Education (D-1 & E-1) area and 2 are from the Foundation in Disability area (d-2-2 & E-2-1) which will be compulsory for all candidates. The other 4 Practicals should be chosen from the specialization streams (D-2-2-1/2/3 & e-2-2).

Group E - Teaching Practice:There will be two Practicals in Teaching Practice. Out of these,practical in general education area and in basic Teaching Practice in Inclusive Schools will be compulsory for all. The practical in specialization area will be as per his/her chosen specialization.

E-1             General Education Area

 Teaching Practice in Science/Mathematics/Social Studies

E-2        Special Education Areas:Disability Specific Streams

E2-1   Teaching Practice in Special Education in Inclusive Schools

SETF-01 Teaching Practice in Inclusive Schools

E-2-2   Any one of the chosen Specialization Course

SETV-01       Teaching Practice in Visual Impairment
SETM-02      Teaching Practice in Mental Retardation
SETM-02       Teaching Practice in Hearing Impairment

2.6 Instructional Hours and Allocation of Marks

The total instructional hours for the B.Ed.SEDE Programme will be 1260 hours including fact-to-face instruction of 400 hours. The suggested distribution of theory component is 540 hours and prac component is 720 hours. The Programme has been assigned a total of 1800 marks, which include 900 marks for Theory papers and 900 marks for the Practicals. In the programme, emphasis is g to the development of practical skills especially in the area of special for children disabilities.

In order to be sucfcessful in the B.Ed.-SEDE Programme the candidate has to fulfill the following conditions: the candidate has to secure

  •  in any Theory Paper under Groups ;A,B and C, a minimum of 40% marks in each of the components, i.e.(1)Continuous (Internal)Assessment, and (2) Term End Examinations, separa

  •  in any Practical in Groups D and E, a minimum of overall 50% marks in both (1) Conyinuous(Internal)Assessment, and, (2) Term End Examinations; and,

  • an overall 50% of marks in total aggrtegate.

2.7 Contact Programme

The candidate selected for admission to the B.Ed.-SEDE Programme should report to his/her Centre for registration for admission and induction, collection of Self Instructional Materials and Face to-Face Contact Programmes. The Calendar of Activities for Face-to-Face Contact Programme the entire academic session will be supplied by the Co-ordinator of the Study Centre. The Programme Schedule of each contact session both for Theory and Practical courses including allotment assignments and Project Wortk,conduct of internal assessment tests will be decided by the Coordinator of the Study Centre and made available to the candidates.

2.8 The Schedule of Contact Programmes

In all there will be a total of four face-to-face contact sessions during the entire Programme(two session per year).The sessions should cover a total approximately 400 hours approx.66 days( @ 6 hours per day)i.e.two in First Year and two in Second Year. The co      sessions will be scheduled as follows:

1st yr - 1st contact session - July/Aug - 2nd contact session - Dec/Jan

2nd yr - 3rd contact session -July/Aug -4th contact session - Dec/Jan
Note:

 

  • The Calender of Activities for Face-to-Face Contact Programmes for the entire academic session will be supplied by the Coordinator of the Study Centre
